Federation Grove

Notes: Federation Grove, also known as the California Federation of Women's Clubs Grove, is located near the confluence of Bull Creek and the South Fork of Eel River in Humboldt Redwoods State Park. The grove was named to honor the California Federation of Women's Clubs which, in 1931, donated $45,000 to Save the Redwoods League to purchase the 0.16 mi2 (0.42 km2) grove from Pacific Lumber Company.

In 1933, the Federation hired renowned California architect Julia Morgan, who designed Hearst Castle (La Cuesta Encantada), to create a memorial which celebrated their conservation efforts and championed their motto: Strength United is Stronger. The California Federation of Women's Clubs Hearthstone, also known as the Four Fireplaces, includes four stone fireplaces with a common chimney.

Federation Grove includes 1 of the 10 tallest trees on Earth (Laurelin). It contains 4 trees taller than 350 ft (106.78 m) and 1 tree taller than 370 ft (112.78 m) and larger than 20,000 ft3 (566 m3).

Laurelin is the tallest and the largest tree in Federation Grove.

Federation Grove includes the following coast redwoods:

  • Disco
  • UT15
  • Washout
